Cleaning, Disinfection & Gel Products
Before cleaning and disinfecting ultrasound probes, read the probes processing chapter in the GE Ultrasound System’s User Manual.
This contains several cleaning and disinfection methods and products, of which efficacy has been validated by GE per ISO 17664, and describes the appropriate levels of disinfection to be used.
To obtain the most recent cleaning and disinfection procedures, visit the Customer Documentation Portal and download the below documents:
- For the Probes Processing Manual, enter reference 5661328 in the search bar and press the Search button.
- For the Transesophageal (TEE) Probes Manual, enter reference KZ192871 in the search bar and press the Search button.
- For the complete System User Manuals, use the filters and select “Ultrasound” in Modality, name of your ultrasound system in Products, and “User and Operator Manual” in Document Type. Then Press the Search button.
Additionally, use only compatible cleaning products (detergents), disinfectants, and gels. The selection tool below lists compatible products for the selected probes. This list updates periodically with new products and probes.
Notes:
- Products listed in the tool or in care-cards are compatible with probe materials, but GE has not validated their efficacy. Questions related to these products should be directed to the detergent/disinfectant manufacturer. Refer to the User Manual or the Probes Processing Manual to identify products validated by GE.
- Products listed might not be available in all regions. Check with your local infection control authorities or product manufacturer.
- GE warranties and service contracts do not cover, and GE is not responsible for, damages caused by cleaning, disinfection or gel products that are not compatible with GE probes.
- Detergents and disinfectants might cause discoloration to the probe’s cable.
- Read the Important Notices below the tool for additional restrictions on compatible products listed.

There are symbols placed after certain disinfectants listed in the tool to denote effectivity claims made by governing bodies or manufacturers against SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19.

To select multiple transducers or cleaning, disinfectant or gel products from the list, hold the CTRL key (or Command key on a Mac) while clicking items to select them. Click every item you want to select.
To select multiple transducers or cleaning, disinfectant or gel products that are adjacent in the list, click on the first item and hold the SHIFT key while you click on the last item in the selection.
Once an item is chosen from the list, the other selection box will automatically update with compatible options for your choice(s). See the compatibility table for more information.
